Economic Growth and FairnessA Progressive Agenda for the 6th District
Amanda believes that a strong and growing middle class is the cornerstone of our economy, which is under attack by Roskam and the current Republican administration.
Amanda is committed to supporting legislation and public policies to create good-paying jobs in the 6th District and throughout the country. Amanda supports major federal investments to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and put millions of Americans back to work. This includes not only rebuilding roads and
Amanda also supports significant federal investment in science and technology, which is the foundation of future economic growth. Amanda supports policies that will create a robust economy, including expanding opportunities for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics education (and including girls equally in these opportunities); making sure that young people have entry points into the tech sector; promoting entrepreneurship and supporting small business growth; fostering inclusion of people of color who have often been excluded from the tech sector; training the existing workforce and those who are unemployed for good-paying technology jobs; and, providing access to free internet and net neutrality.
Amanda supports regulation of the financial sector, including the Glass-Steagall Act, Dodd-Frank, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She also believes that the historic level of income inequality is a serious problem that must be addressed in part by ensuring that the wealthy and large corporations pay their fair share in taxes.
Amanda also believes that no person who works full time should have to live or raise a family in poverty. The current minimum wage is a poverty wage, and it should be raised to a living wage, starting with a $15 per hour federal minimum wage.
